A town today that lay hold a claim
Of people settled always since 7700 BC
No longer a claim for Britain can another proclaim
By 500 AD a village it would be

It's church of St Mary’s of 1857 stands still today
It has a twin of Nideggen of Germany
It's reed beds are of interest
An abundance of nature with life all around

The Broadway at its centre
Blue Coat school to the East
Discovery Centre the West
The floods of ‘07 gone now to rest

A town now of Berkshire
Once larger than Newbury
An attack of Black Death in 1348
Would reduce it once more

Between Reading and Newbury
Kennet and Avon not far
Once known as Taceham
This little place is quiet no more

A little town called Thatcham
Thrives once more
